Anthony J. Taffaro, Sr., Principal of the architecture firm, Kessels, Diboll, Kessels, LLC, (KDK) joined VergesRome Architects in 2010 through VRA’s acquisition of the firm. The successor firm of Kessels, Diboll, Kessels, Architects, Partnership, KDK was in continuous practice in New Orleans for over 100 years, having commenced providing professional services c. 1894. Mr. Taffaro worked with Kessels, Diboll, Kessels for over 34 years, fourteen of them as Partner, and four years as Owner-Principal. Tony earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Tulane University in 1972 and Masters of Architecture from Tulane in 2004. Six months after graduation in 1972, Tony joined Kessels, Diboll, Kessels Architects, gaining extensive experience in design, detailing, specification writing, and construction administration of office buildings ranging from Administrative, Medical, Insurance, Legal, and Financial, to tenant buildouts in single-story to high-rise structures. He has had the opportunity to be engaged with numerous significant projects in New Orleans, including a major restoration of historic St. Louis Cathedral. KDK designed numerous major commercial buildings, freight and bus terminals, transportation service yards, and industrial and agricultural warehouses throughout the South.

Mr. Taffaro possesses extensive experience in all of the parking structures designed by KDK over the past 32 years, providing a unique specialty expertise for urban redevelopment design projects. These include free-standing garages, Hotel/Garage, and Office Building/Garage combinations. Among these are the Welcome Center Parking Garage, LaSalle, and Galvez parking Garages, all, part of the Louisiana Capitol Park, located in downtown Baton Rouge, as well as a State/City garage on the corner of Third and Convention Streets for the Arts Block Project in Baton Rouge. A 752-car parking garage with ground floor retail space, designed in Joint Venture with Jerry Campbell & Associates of Baton Rouge, was recently completed on the LSU main campus. Mr. Taffaro’s designs reflect a deep respect for architectural precedents, demonstrated in his modern updates and conversions of historic commercial properties, such as the Whitney Parking Garage, where his design preserved architecturally significant 150-year-old building facades while providing much-needed automobile parking space in New Orleans’ Central Business District. Other parking structure projects include an award-winning parking garage at Loyola University and another garage for Ochsner Hospital and Clinic in Jefferson Parish. Mr. Taffaro has also delivered various infrastructure projects for Tulane University including ADA elevator ramps and access modifications.

Mr. Taffaro’s current work with VRA includes two school projects for the Recovery School District of New Orleans: the refurbishment of Samuel Green Charter School, and design for a new George Washington Carver High School. He is also Project Manager for the City of New Orleans Hurricane Recovery Project at the Parks and Parkways Department Gentilly Campus.
